Architecture is the artwork, the science and the business of constructing. The substitute house additionally needed to respect the heights of the surrounding bungalows; by manipulating the levels and stepping the building down, in spite of being a storey larger than the neighbouring properties, the flat roof parapet levels sit below the ridge strains of the adjoining houses.

Organised by the architects Jorge Carvalho, Pedro Bandeira and Ricardo Carvalho, the exhibition will be open till March 2018, with several talks and debates by national and international figures that have been concerned in the exhibition scheduled to happen during this time.

With Hip & Gable, Architecture Architecture pays homage to a dignified, lengthy-serving Californian Bungalow, while engaging it to say a bit of extra and to perform a little more too. The Architecture Drawing Prize 2017, a collaboration between the World Architecture Festival, Sir John Soane’s Museum and Make Architects, is open for entries.
