Works of the visible arts include a wide variety of pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works, as well as architectural works. This course investigates the a number of realities of art and visible culture in twentieth-century China, and explores the ways by which Chinese language artists have outlined modernity and their custom towards the complex background of China’s history.

These questions are discussed using themes: secrecy, rumor, ignorance and surveillance, and a corresponding set of artworks by a gaggle of artists who utilize these approaches: Vito Acconci, Bruce Nauman, Sophie Calle and Julia Scher, among others.

Bearing in mind the cultural and economic affect of the visible arts, nationally and internationally, in addition to the challenges facing the humanities immediately, the program prepares students to become leaders in a broad vary of arts organizations.
